The coins have been counted and though organizers for Change For The Environment admitted they wished more had been raised, the final tally is impressive for the event’s first time, they said.
The event — which encouraged residents in Belleville, Quinte West and Toronto to drop off spare change between April 30 to May 3 at a variety of locations to be used for environmental purposes — raised more than $12,300. (more…)

John Pecek took off his firefighter’s uniform and picked up his guitar to serenade the city over the weekend.
Pecek was one of the musicians who volunteered time to busk for Change for the Environment, a local program. People in Belleville, Quinte West and Toronto were asked to donate their spare change from April 30 to May 3 with local donations going to Quinte and Lower Trent conservation authorities and the Lung Association. Along with the busking, donation sites were set up throughout the community.
